Those Eyes
misty · Wed, Jan 6, 2016Milo, Chase and I stepped out this morning to see (my) doctor for a check up. While we were out, many people stopped and marveled at Milo’s cuteness, and more than one person remarked on her beautiful eyes, specifically. At this point, we still can’t get a read on Milo’s eye color. Today I looked and looked at them while we were out in good light, and while they still look mostly gray, I see more brown at the top of her right iris. As of yet, I haven’t been able to get a great picture of them, either, but I’ll keep trying.
As for the rest of the day, it went by pretty quickly. I think Milo’s going through a growth spurt because she slept a lot. She didn’t wake up until 8:08 this morning (as compared to 6:30 yesterday), and she took 2 2-hour naps today. I even had to wake her up from the second so that she didn’t sleep too long and interfere with this evening’s rest.
When she was awake, she basically rolled around and chewed on anything she could find. She has finally started to love tags on things, and she chewed on the tags on the play mat and the exersaucer. This evening, she hadn’t pooped all day and her belly was looking huge, so we put her in the vibrating chair at around 7pm and it worked its magic by 7:30. Relief!
For bed tonight, we’re moving on to the next step in phasing out the swaddling. Here’s how it’s supposed to go:
Loosen the swaddle. We accomplished this by ceasing to use the swaddle blankets and beginning to use swaddlers, which can’t be wrapped as tightly.
Take one arm out of the swaddle. We have been on this step for quite some time due to being away from home for the holidays and not wanting to introduce something drastically different while she wasn’t in her home environment.
Take both arms out of the swaddle. This is where we are tonight. So far, she went down easily and didn’t seem too disturbed by having both arms free. We’ll see how it goes for the rest of the night.
Remove the swaddle altogether and replace with a sleep sack. Our sleep sacks are ready to go, so if Milo responds well to step 3, we can move on pretty quickly.
Notes:
Milo still has a small diaper rash. I’m concerned that it’s taking so long to go away, but her doctor said that it may be chronic. We just keep slathering on the diaper cream in hopes that it will magically make the rash disappear. At least Milo doesn’t seem bothered by it.
We’ve been supporting Milo while she stands lately to help strengthen her legs, and she loves it. Tonight, as she stood on Chase’s lap, he encouraged her to take steps, and she was very good at it! She moved left-right left-right, like a pro.
Tonight, Chase and I listed some of Milo’s old clothes on Craigslist. It’s hard to part with them, but I’m doing my best not to be sentimental about things like that. We can’t possibly hold on to them, and it sure does feel good to purge! Let’s hope someone is interested in buying.
