Cereal
misty · Sun, Jan 3, 2016Chase’s last day of vacation before going back to work was pretty lazy and wonderful. Milo slept until 7:30, which I think means that she’s already back to her California schedule. We had some breakfast, went to Sunset to get second breakfast at Arizmendi Bakery and pick up some used baby clothes from a Craigslist seller. Then after a quick stop at Whole Foods, we came home and stayed here for the remainder of the day.
Chase sucked me into the Star Wars prequel trilogy, so we’re working on Attack of the Clones as I type, and Milo was playful and energetic much of the day. She did have 4 short naps (instead of the usual 3) and wanted to go to sleep a bit early tonight (she was down by 8:15 instead of the usual 8:30-45).
When I went to the “Introducing Solids” class a few weeks ago, they told us that two surefire signs that a baby is ready for cereal are when she stops pushing things out of her mouth with her tongue, and when she watches closely when others around her are eating. Milo has been giving us her undivided attention when we eat (she even watches silently), which is the last of the two signs she needed. So today we made a small amount of oatmeal cereal and Chase fed her with his finger. She was very interested, though we weren’t sure whether she was really interested in the food or just Chase’s fingers. I think we’re going to slowly start giving her more oatmeal cereal as a precursor to pureed foods, which will come in February, probably.
Notes:
Milo rested her head on my shoulder briefly, and for the first time, it wasn’t because she was falling asleep or because her head was getting too heavy. I loved it.
Milo continues to watch my mouth when we sing to her at night. She reached for my face again tonight, so I leaned in just close enough for her to reach me, and again she didn’t squeeze my mouth or scratch me. I think she just wanted to touch me.
Our girl is getting really good at reaching for things. She reaches out for everything and is usually very successful at grabbing her target.
