Cartoon fatigue

To prevent babies from getting over-tired and fussy, you’re supposed to watch for telltale signs of fatigue: slow movements, droopy eyes, etc. The sign I love the most is eye-rubbing. Adults will rub the corners of their eyes with a lone finger or two to clear away eye gunk, or to gently massage the skin.

But babies! For babies, eye-rubbing is a full two-fisted affair, just like in cartoons. The way you might mime fatigue in an improv troupe, or while playing Pictionary — that’s just the way babies do it.
